This is a repost of a blog post from the Zenoss blog -- http://community.zenoss.org/blogs/zenossblog/2010/05/25/zenoss-tip-of-th...
This month's tip comes from Zenoss Community member Stacy Uden that shows how to take advantage of the flexibility of Event Commands within Zenoss. Event Commands allow the system to run arbitrary shell commands when events occur that match pre-configured criteria. This allows almost any action to be taken in response to events that occur. Common uses of event commands include:
I was a huge fan of the first Iron Man movie, and after reading some preliminary reviews of the sequel I was pretty iffy on going to this movie in the theater. Last night I was like, I can't just not go to this movie just because everyone says it sucks. Needless to say I'm glad I went to the movie. I felt that it was well put together and for a non-comic book person I felt like I got a pretty decent look at the whole "Iron Man" story
I've been using Dropbox for a couple weeks now for decentralized document sharing. Currently I'm just using the free trial account that allows you to have 2GB of space, so far it's been more than enough to work with for my documents and ad-hoc file sharing.
Blackberry Desktop Manager error 4238 while running a intellisync operation
The issue is generally caused by a communication issue with the Blackberry desktop manager software and Microsoft Outlook.
The first troubleshooting step that should be taken is the following:
If the sync fails do the following:
I stumbled on this site that you can verify if any file contains a virus or a trojan that could potentially be harmful to your computer. It's a free service and contains antivirus engine support from basically every software vendor that you can think of and many that you've never heard of. Really how useful is this site? Not very, to me, but to some I think it could be useful. It would be awesome if there was a web service API that you could tie into and could leverage it in a SPAM / AV appliance for a mail server which in my opinion this would be the only useful place for this type
I'm always on a lookout for a better way to manage my blog post and manage the content easier. I've been seeing off and on now on a couple sites talking about using Google Docs to write your blog posts. Which I'm like, the word processor works pretty well so I'm going to be giving it a shot here for the next few weeks to see how I like using it over what I'm currently using and not completely happy with in Qumana. The thing I like about Qumana is that it will sync all your posts with the editor and you can edit the posts quite easily if you want. The one thing I hate about Qumana is the
So I've been trying to install Redhat Enterprise Linux 6 the past couple days inside a virtual machine with Virtualbox on my laptop so I can play around with it and what not. I've just been struggling getting it to boot correctly. I will be honest I haven't really sat down and just worked on it to troubleshoot the boot issue as it looks like some minor grub configuration issue that should be easily remedied. I'm just super excited to get it installed and play around with it and possibly through it on my filesever that I'm rebuilding finally.
I was fixing a client's Active Directory DNS Server last evening, because I was unable to run dcpromo on one of the member servers in the domain successfully. So I starting trying to pinpoint where the issue was. First issue that I found is that the _msdsc dns entries were not being dynamically creates. Here's a quick check list of getting your Active Directory DNS issue under control.
I've been troubleshooting a client's SQLExpress 2005 installation, and I have ran into an error message that I haven't ran into ever. Basically when going through the installation process an error is thrown "Error setting internal properties" and the database engine won't install. Here are the steps that I took to correct this issue
So I've been looking a way to reduce the amount of necessary data that I need to have access to at any given time in a centralized location, and I've been struggling with a way to make this streamlined and straight forward I've found the solution that is going to solve this issue for me with Dropbox. Basically its a file synchronization application/servic
I have been performing freelance computer services for almost 10 years now. Up until about 6 months ago I did all my time tracking, invoicing, and project tracking manually. Here within the last 6 months I have taken a step back to evaluate how I'm running my small business and I realized I needed to take ahold of tracking my income a little better, and provide better methods of payments as my client base is starting to span across the United States now.
So I've been working on a project with an outside party and they really aren't feeling the benefits of Drupal, and I get that it may be an acquired taste with working with a full CMS system that for some sites can be overwelming to use for it. So I took it upon me to look for something a little bit easier and more end-user friendly to work with. I came by Surreal CMS which basically can allow anyone to create a CMS backend to any website with minimal fuss.
