Alternative to Windows Media Center - Xbox Media Center
I have been looking really hard for a replacement for Windows Media Center for a long time, and I have finally found a suitable and extensible replacement in XBMC ( XBox Media Center ). It supports basically every platform from the original XBox to Linux and Macs. The thing I absolutely love about it is you can do just about anything with it as it has a full plugin environment that you can download plugins and shit to get it to do what you want it to do.
The scripts can be downloaded from - http://www.xbmcscripts.com - there literally are thousands of scripts and utilities that you can customize and personalize your media center experience to. Here are the scripts that I have found that I like the best for what I wanted to do.
MultiRSS - It allows reading multiple feeds and placing them into categories. You read it one headline at a time of your choosing.
Navi-X - An absolute must to allow basically any streaming music / video / whatever you need. HIGHLY reccommended
XinBOX - Gotta keep up to date with your e-mails yo! -- Checks your e-mail accounts and allows you to reply / fwd ect w/o leaving the MC
They also have a neat little utility that connects straight to the XBMC Scripts database so you can add and install scripts straight from the MC interface, pretty awesome option when it comes having this on your Xbox - http://www.xbmcscripts.com/scriptservice/
If you are like me and have a ton of music and digital videos that you watch on your TV and computer and shit like that this is a definite must have application. Download it here - Don't forget to comment and tell me what you think of it !
